What started as a hare-brained idea that i could take a derelict townhouse garden, and rework it into a 'zen pond' type rock garden.
After 7 hrs of digging a great big hole in the high heat of summer in the middle of the garden, i sunk the preformed pond liner in the hole.
No real concrete plans on how it will look, just a minds-eye of how i want it to look.. i'm winging it.
This is my first try at 'gardening'.

Another view of the pond liner sunk into the hole i dug.
The dirt pile was reduced in size once the pond liner was refilled to fit the larger sized hole dug for it, but once all was said and done, there were still 8 wheel barrel loads that had to be removed from the pile and disposed of.

Buddy's really starting to dig it

Buddy's really starting to dig it.
I'm designing the stone work so that Buddy can walk around the pond with minimized risk of falling in. Buddy has neurological deficits that makes him unsteady on his feet and unbalances easily.

More of the stonework is in place. I also cut out a portion of the top tier garden border, to inset the commercial 'waterfall' in place.

A different angle of the progress on the stonework and 'waterfall'.

Buddy - one of the main reasons i'm putting in the 'zen garden', to keep him stimulated and entertained in the very small back yard.

With the exception of a few more plants/ground covering to be added, and the circulation pump to be installed on the bottom of the pool and hooked up, the Zen Garden is basically complete.
I've added two retaining walls using engineered concrete blocks, in place of the rotting plank walls that were removed.
An additional Euonymus bush was planted, along with four dwarf Alberta Spruce trees.
